The township of Santa Ynez was established in 1882. With roots in the ranching and farming history of the area, its western architecture on the main street is authentic and charming. The downtown area includes the Post Office, a coffee shop, a deli and sandwich shop, some fine dining establishments, a feed store for livestock and pet supplies, some clothing and décor shops, a saloon, a gas station with full traditional service attendants, and more. The Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum & Carriage House is a rich repository of community history and culture, as well as a frequent gathering spot for the valley’s society members.
